Twenty five young sailors were aboard ten different boats and the weather was absolutely perfect! We want to thank the CORA boat owners who helped support the event: Arrow, Big Booty, Emocean, Jubilee, Moose Down, More Cowbell, Naut-On-Call, Pigs Fly Too, Tohidu, Wrinkles.

A big thanks to sponsors and donors who help make these events possible: Charleston Sail Loft, West Marine, Charleston Yachting & Threads!

Open Bics to Arrive Mid-April
posted by Jessica Koenig on April 1, 2010

Just confirmed today, the fleet of 6 boats will arrive from OPen Bic after Charleston Race Week. “We are so excited to incorporate these boats into our summer sailing program” says Executive Director, Jessica Koenig. “I think it will be a great way to keep the kids involved in the sport who may not be interested in heading in the racing direction.”

A little Open Bic Information: The fast, planing hull of the O’pen Bic gives a dynamic sailing experience of a true dinghy that heels. Being at the helm of this powerful machine gives you the same excitement normally experienced on a boat for adults. With its 60-foot Open design, including a totally open self draining stern, even capsizing is fun! Young sailors are fully independent on the water and will be proud to sail such a modern-looking and elegant boat, one that both sails and looks like the boat of today’s champions. Check out the Bics and when you sign up for any SUMMER SAILING., you will have the opportunity to sail the BICS!

2010 SUMMER REGISTRATION
Summer is right around the corner, and with that all the planning and coordination of our sailing camps.

This summer Charleston Community Sailing will also be managing the Charleston Yacht Club Jr. Sail Program to run the biggest Junior Sail Program in town. With this new partnership our fleet of boats has more than doubled. We will have 8 Optimists and 2 Open Bics from the ChYC and with the addition of the 6 Open Bics from our grant at the Symposium – that is 8 Open Bics. YEAH! Double the boats = Double the Fun!

Charleston Community Sailing has a great reputation of running excellent summer sailing programs and this summer we are excited to get more youth involved in sailing. We teach classes to Junior sailors ages 8-18 as well as adults, in all levels of sailing instruction from beginner sailor to advanced racer. Experience sailing this summer and learn a sport and building skills to last a lifetime. Our summer programs are open to EVERYONE and we look forward to seeing you out on the water!
