The Sailing Center at Safe Harbor
For more than two decades, Charleston Community Sailing (CCS) has been dedicated to making sailing accessible to everyone. Through innovative programs and hands-on experiences, CCS provides children and adults opportunities to build confidence, develop character, learn valuable life skills, and experience the freedom and responsibility of being on the water.
Today, we are excited to share the next chapter of that mission: the opportunity to create a permanent home for Charleston Community Sailing and expand access to the water for our community.
A few years ago, Safe Harbor approached CCS with the opportunity to donate a dock. Over the past two years, we have worked with Safe Harbor and the Charleston Yacht Club to develop a vision for a new sailing center. The project will include approximately 300 linear feet of dock space and a flexible pavilion designed to support sailing instruction, youth and adult programs, racing, community events, classroom education, and more.
The Sailing Center at Safe Harbor will provide CCS with a permanent home while creating greater access to Charleston’s waterfront. A dedicated facility will allow us to serve more students, expand programs, improve launching and storage, and provide a place where our community can learn, gather, and experience the benefits of sailing.
The project is moving forward. McSweeney Engineering has completed the plans, which are now in the permitting process, and Truluck Marine, led by Rawlins Lowndes, will complete the dock relocation and Sailing Center buildout. We are actively raising the funds needed to make this vision a reality.
We invite you to join us for a fundraising event on Sunday, November 8th, at the Charleston Yacht Club to learn more about the Sailing Center, see our vision for the future, and help us take this important step forward. Tickets are available through our website.
We hope you will consider joining us on November 8th and, if you are able, make a meaningful contribution to the Sailing Center. Your support will have an impact far beyond the construction of a building or dock. You will help to create access, opportunity, education, and a lasting home for Charleston Community Sailing.
Together, we can bring the community to the water and create a place where more people can learn, grow, and discover the joy of sailing.
With gratitude,
Brooks Harken, Chief Executive Officer Windy Key, Board President
