Tuesday Night Racing
Beginning in 2026, the popular Tuesday Night Racing will be hosted by Charleston Community Sailing! Thank you to the College of Charleston Sailing Association for launching and hosting Tuesday Night Racing until 2025 and for trusting CCS to take it into the next chapter.
Tuesday Night Racing is open to experienced racers of all ages.
Racing will begin on May 12. End date is TBD. No racing will be held on June 30, as CCS will be closed the week of July 4.
Races will begin each Tuesday at 6:00PM. The anticipated racing area will be in the Ashley River. Scores will be tracked by skipper each night and throughout the season. Please reach out to madeline@charlestoncommunitysailing.org if you are interested in sponsoring nightly and/or season awards. Registration and results will be hosted on ClubSpot. Only ONE registration per skipper per season is required. See below for fee structure.
The first start each night will be for the 420 fleet. (Club 420s are welcome to race, but must not use trapeze or spinnaker.) Subsequent starts will be run for any one design class that arrives with at least 3 boats. For boats that do not meet the minimum attendance numbers for their own start, we will run races that will be scored using the Portsmouth Yardstick rating system.
CCS will have thirteen 420s available for charter at a cost of $30 per boat per night of racing. Boats will only be chartered to sailors arriving in pairs; CCS will not be responsible for assigning partners to unpaired sailors. CCS will begin signing CCS 420s out at 5:15PM. Boats will be signed out on a first come, first served basis. To pay the nightly fee upon arrival, please use this link and select 'CCS 420 Charter' ONLY. PLEASE NOTE: EARLY PAYMENT DOES NOT GUARANTEE A BOAT.
All other dinghies on Charleston Harbor are welcome to join for $10 per boat per night of racing. To pay the nightly fee, please use this link and select 'Tuesday Night Racing'.
Before racing, please be sure to submit a completed Liability Release & Waiver.
If you are interested in volunteering in race committee, mark boat, and/or safety boat roles or learning any of these roles, please visit our Volunteer Signup page. Please reach out to madeline@charlestoncommunitysailing.org if you have any questions.
PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a learn to race program! All sailors must have experience racing and be capable of safely operating their boat in all conditions. Sailors are expected to abide by the Racing Rules of Sailing and display sportsmanlike conduct at all times.
